Reading the scan
What you are looking at
The left half of the screenshot is the board. Every painter LeadSnap found on the keyword, sorted by average rank, 74 of them. On 9 June 2026 the profile came in third on that list, with two painters above it.
The right half is the map. Each circle is one of the 169 search points and the number inside it is where the profile ranked at that spot. Green is a top three finish. Red is deep in the results where nobody scrolls. On this scan the green ran through the middle of the grid and the red sat out on the western edge.
The grid covers 35.92 km2, 13 points by 13, so every percentage on this page is measured across that footprint and against the 74 painters scanned on it. Average rank on the day was 4.86, good for third on the board. Read that one as supporting detail rather than the headline. Position and market share are what say where the profile stood against the other painters, and that is the read that decides who gets the call.
The challenge
Painters compete in the map pack
Painting is a search first purchase. Somebody decides the hallway has waited long enough. They open Google, look at the three businesses at the top of the map, and call one. Everything under that block gets a fraction of the attention. For a local painting company that top position is not a nice to have, it is the channel.
Vancouver makes it harder than a small city does. The category is crowded. Established independents, franchise operators and lead brokers all bid on the same searches, all with years of reviews behind them. A local crew has to earn the position on relevance, proximity and prominence instead of outspending anyone.
Local rank is also not one number. It is measured cell by cell across a grid. A profile that looks healthy at the shop address can fall away completely twenty minutes away. Painters cover a wide service area out of one address, which is exactly the shape of business that gets hurt by that fall off.
On top of that, a painting company sells more than one thing. Interior, exterior, cabinets, commercial and strata all get searched differently and by different people. A single services page cannot rank for all of them.
What we did
Profile, pages, citations
Google Business Profile first. Primary category, secondary categories, services, service area, hours, description. All of it set the way Google reads it, not the way an owner would write it. Photos go up on a schedule. Posts go out on a schedule. The profile is worked every week instead of being filled in once and left alone.
Then the website. A page for every service the company actually sells. Interior, exterior, cabinets, the rest. Then a page for every neighbourhood it covers. Area pages are written from real research into the neighbourhood. Never spun from one template with the place name swapped out. Near duplicate pages do not rank and do not convert. Schema, internal linking and index submission are part of the build, not a cleanup job afterwards.
Then citations. Name, address and phone get matched across the directory set so nothing on the open web contradicts the profile. Inconsistent listings are quiet drag on the profile, and they are cheap to fix once the profile itself is settled.
Interlinking holds it together. Services link to the areas they are sold in, areas link back to the services, and both link up to the hub pages. That is what tells Google the site is one business covering one region rather than a pile of unrelated pages.
Google Ads runs alongside it. Exact match only. Tightly themed ad groups. A service area drawn to the radius the crew will actually drive. Conversion tracking wired up, so the paid side is judged on booked work. Ads cover the searches organic has not reached yet and give an early read on which terms are worth building a page for.
Then it gets measured. Grid scans for map position, Search Console for clicks, and the ads account for cost per lead. The scan at the top of this page is the raw export, not a retyping of it. Anything without a report behind it stays off the page.
